Baby Talcum Powder Cancer Claims Head To The British High Court
Regular readers of this website will know of the issue of asbestos being found in talc, and specifically Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder. Manufactured in the USA and shipped around the world, this company has gotten away with having asbestos in the product due to the lax laws in the USA regarding asbestos. Products have been able to contain up to 1% asbestos, unlike in the UK and the EU where 0% is allowed due to the fat that asbestos is a known carcinogen.
As with all products in the USA, they are deemed safe for use, until a law suit claims otherwise and the case is won. In other words, unless the courts agree with those claiming a product is unsafe, it can continue being manufactured and sold. This despite it taking numerous years and plenty of money before a product known to be hazardous to human health; is finally taken off the market.
This is one of the reasons why trade deals with the USA could have serious risk to human health in the UK as exemplified by the current pressure on the UK Government to allow chicken washed in Chlorine, a known toxic substance, to be imported from thew US into the UK.
So bad is the general hygiene in US factory farming methods, that disease and deadly bacteria is evident in the meat from poultry; partly as a result of filthy preparation of carcases being packaged for supermarkets. In order to kill hazardous bacteria in the meat, Chlorene is used to wash the meat prior to packaging and being sold.
Numerous cases in the US against Johnson & Johnson resulted in them having to withdraw their baby powder product from US stores and eventually from the rest of the world.
Now legal claims against the company for causing cancer in the UK as a result of their talc having been laced with asbestos, and that they knowingly denied and lied about the product.
Cancers such as Mesothelioma, Fallopian Tube Cancer, Primary Peritoneal Cancer, and Ovarian Cancer have been linked to the long-term use of products containing asbestos, and specifically in the case of Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder / Talcum Powder.
